After four years without our Sunday night HBO fix, our fabulous friends in the city are back.  Michael Patrick King, producer of the six year HBO series, takes over as director in this much anticipated follow-up to the Sex and the City saga.  While King did direct several of the episodes, this represents his first effort to delight on Hollywood’s main stage as he attempts to rekindle the magic of Sex

We loved watching Miranda, Samantha, Charlotte, and Carrie on their quest to find the perfect guy and the perfect shoes in the series.  While not much has changed in that department, we see the girls have left their younger years behind with the film taking the time to serve cake at one gal’s fiftieth.  While they are older and a bit wiser, they still have their well-defined personalities that viewers have connected with.

The series finale left Carrie, the narrator and main character played by Sarah Jessica Parker, in Paris contemplating her life across the Atlantic with boyfriend Aleksandr Petrovsky. With the blessing of Carrie’s friends, Big (Carrie’s longtime suitor) travels to France to reclaim the starlet as his own. The movie picks up 4 years later giving us a re-cap of Carrie’s move back to New York, where most of the movie is filmed.

Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson of Dreamgirls enters the scene as a young girl, fresh out of college who has moved to the big city for all the same reasons that Carrie did years ago:  love.  Hudson is a perfect addition to the movie and keeps Sex and the City fresh for younger viewers.

Giving high marks to this movie and not mentioning the trend-setting, Oscar and Emmy-nominated costume designer Patricia Field would be a crime.  Field has done an amazing job with literally hundreds of costume changes during the movie.  Who else could choose the to-die-for accessories and fashion forward outfits that our favorite girls wear so well?

Sex and the City is a fun movie for anxious fans that have been waiting to catch up with the gals.  Shake up a cosmopolitan and enjoy!
